Magic Monday 12 1
Hey it's Chris
Things change
We know it’s true
Every day, waking up and looking at the man in the mirror
It’s hard to deny
A little more gray, a little more grizzle
Probably a little more gruff
and a lot more guff
So much beyond your control
Despite trying
Exercise and supplement to fight the stiffness
Reading and watching to exercise the mind
But the world doesn’t really care that much about you
Or your plans
Or your goals or your hopes
All that exists in your mind, and maybe on a page
If you are the write it down type, like me
Yep, you can say I will do A and then B and then C
And God laughs and laughs and laughs
And says, Oh yeah?!?
The problem with praying for patience is…
The answer to the prayer is usually a test to the patience
And sometimes a harsh test
And sometimes a lesson to be learned
Though I, for one, wish one thing would change
When they say you are one of the Chosen
The Good God tests you over and over again
It feels like getting a good beat down
Instead of learning
Hard to stay up when things feel like they’re sliding sideways
Because a plan didn’t work one way
Or the way you thought
So then, you take a page from FRIENDS handbook on living the good life
“Pivot!”
and smile at the memory of Schimmer screaming it on the stairwell
sending his costars into gales of laughter and smirks
Which is how one should meet each test to make one patient
and make one strong
Standing in the onslaught, laughing
Though, I suspect were one to laugh at the unfortunate circumstances that send plans back to the drawing boards
or tossed in the bin for a good re-think,
that all around you would stare
because they were quite sure you had finally succumbed to madness
instead of trying to laugh with the Big Guy laughing at your plans

IT’S 9AM
Every morning is a second chance.
Most people miss it.
Chris Lowry writes it down.
It’s 9AM is a raw, unfiltered, quietly powerful collection of personal essays from the writer of the hit daily Substack by the same name — stories about life, resilience, failure, grit, and the impossible business of becoming a better human without burning your entire life to the ground in the process.
If you’ve ever woken up wondering how to keep going…
If you’ve ever tried to reinvent yourself at the “wrong” age…
If you’ve ever fought your own doubts while chasing something bigger…
If you’ve ever felt like life is one long run where the finish line keeps moving…
This is your book.
Lowry doesn’t hand out “10 Steps to Fix Your Life.”
He hands you something better: his lived-in truth.
The early mornings.
The setbacks.
The running trails.
The mistakes.
The tiny wins that matter more than we admit.
The lessons that arrive disguised as chaos.
And the moments where the world makes sense for just long enough to write them down.
These essays are sharp, funny, vulnerable, and brutally honest — a reminder that personal development isn’t a mountaintop. It’s a daily lap. A daily choice. A daily reset.
It’s a journey. And it starts every single morning at 9AM.
Whether you’re here for the storytelling, the soul-searching, or just a reason to keep swinging one more day, It’s 9AM gives you what you need most:
A spark. A breath.
A nudge forward.
A reminder you’re not alone.
